Hump Day Freebie: RoadkillSoda – Space Echo & Time

hump-day-freeb
You’ve made it through half of the work week! For that reason, you deserve a reward. What better way to reward yourself than with a new album? Better yet, a FREE album. That ought to make up for your week so far. Okay, maybe not, but it does make the pill easier to swallow, even if only slightly.

Today’s freebie is: RoadkillSoda's Space Echo & Time.

The sodas have to stick together in this dog-eat-dog world we live in! The stoner/sludge band switches things up with an acoustic album. Make no mistake, the album is still very much heavy. It's also worth your time to download.

Today’s freebie is: It's Not Night: It's Space's Bowing Not Knowing to What.

The first full-length from this doomy, droney, spacey, psychedelic stoner trio is one of those albums that makes you scratch your head about why it's free to download. They also have their second pressing of the album on LP at a great price. Download, listen, and then realize you need the vinyl in your life.

Today’s freebie is: Black Woods's Landscapes.

This album is by in large instrumental with vocals scarcely strewn throughout. Landscapes is an excellent blues rock album with psychedelic tones with some noticeable post-rock elements throughout. The album is groovy, atmospheric, and has the right amount of electric blues attitude. The album is a fitting follow-up to their 2014 release, The Strange Crow. Bon appétit.

Hump Day Freebie: The White Soots – The White Soots

Today's freebie is: The White Soots's The White Soots.

If you followed The Soda Shop at all, this album may sound familiar. It should. This album was the #1 and #2 albums for Bill and I, respectively, for our 2010 top albums chart. 6 years later, and it still has a profound effect on me when I listen to it. It is one of those albums with staying power.

The album is pure raw, fuzzy, bluesy psychedelic rock. Like Bill describes them, take Led Zeppelin and early Black Keys, raise them in the south, and you get a good idea of how The White Soots sound.

Sadly, this is the first and only album they have. They broke up, and since then their bassist, Karl, has passed. Fortunately, the band and Karl live on through this album, and you can consume it free of charge.

As a bonus, I may have a couple CDs for anyone that wants them, just send me an email at jake@stonedsoda.com. Also, be sure to check out Kyle's current band, Salvadore Ross.

Hump Day Freebie: Trash Titan – Trash Titan (the lost album)

Today's freebie is: Trash Titan's Trash Titan.

For the second week, I'm giving you long-lost albums that have been found. What can I say? These albums age like fine wine!

If you don't know Trash Titan, then you should get to know them. Right now would be a good time, too. Well, after you finish this post. They play some fuzzy, whiskey-soaked rock. Not convincing enough? The band describes their lost album's sound as better than I can:

Picture the Black Keys getting anally violated by Black Sabbath while Howlin' Wolf guzzles Everclear cut with swamp sludge and you're in the AAA ball park.

Yeah. If that doesn't sell the album to you then I don't know what could. Okay, now you can have at it.

Hump Day Freebie: Broken Clown – Houses of the Homely

Today’s freebie is: Broken Clown's Houses of the Homely.

Haven't heard of Broken Clown? Well, that's not surprising. The band is defunct, but they are just now releasing their first full-length. The album had begun recording back in 2001 but the band broke up in 2002 before the album had been finished. Fast forward 14 years and the original masters, the masters have been found, and the album is now complete and available for consumption. Is this the literal definition of an "instant classic"?

The band's sound is classic, early stoner rock from the 90s and 00s. There's plenty of heavy metal and grunge rock mixed in as to be expected. No real surprises here, just good, kickass heavy rock and roll from beginning to end.

Hump Day Freebie: Mondo Naif – Turbolento

Today’s freebie is: Mondo Naif's Turbolento.

More fuzzy psychedelic rock. Who would've thunk it?! Yet another one of the albums that I came across early this year on my major binge weekend. This trio hails from Italy, and they rock. Their brand of heavy psych reminds me, at times, of Spidergawd and Hypnos 69 with their usage of brass instruments. Which, of course, shouldn't come as a surprise that has me hooked.

Download the full-length and stay fuzzy.

Hump Day Freebie: Bonus!

This week's going to be a little different as I have multiple freebies to suggest. I didn't think you'd mind the added bonus.

Golden SmokeResurrection City

This Canadian band went defunct in 2012, but they're offering their first 2 albums as name your price on Bandcamp, including this 2009 release. The Rolling Stones vibe is strong with this one only fuzzy and heavy psych.

Back Alley RamblersBack Alley Ramblers

Funky and raw blues rock from… northern Massachusetts? The last part confuses me, but what's not confusing is that this a good album to pick up and enjoy, especially at the price point.

Apex Shine – Home Baked

Psychedelic blues rock, steeped in the 70s with a distinct influence of 90s alternative rock makes for a great album. This is an album to get lost in.

Hump Day Freebie: Hexagon – Fight to the Death

hump-day-freeb
You’ve made it through half of the work week! For that reason, you deserve a reward. What better way to reward yourself than with a new album? Better yet, a FREE album. That ought to make up for your week so far. Okay, maybe not, but it does make the pill easier to swallow, even if only slightly.

Today’s freebie is: Hexagon's self-titled debut, Fight to the Death.

I'm going to kinda cheat on this one. Paul Rote and FDJ (follow these two on Bandcamp) are right on the money with the description of this album. This is a retro rock album all the way. It's quite a bit like a mix of Witchcraft, Graveyard, Kamchatka, etc… Yeah, all Swedish bands we've come to know and love, and it shouldn't be a surprise that Hexagon are Swedish as well. There's a reason why Sweden is on my list of places I have to travel to see. The vocals of Fight to the Death are a bit raw, and that adds to the album's allure.

The whole thing is solid, front to back. It's name your price.

Hump Day Freebie: Black Orange – Black Orange

hump-day-freeb
You’ve made it through half of the work week! For that reason, you deserve a reward. What better way to reward yourself than with a new album? Better yet, a FREE album. That ought to make up for your week so far. Okay, maybe not, but it does make the pill easier to swallow, even if only slightly.

Today’s freebie is: Black Orange's self-titled debut, Black Orange.

This is a unique freebie today. You see, this album was actually recorded in '95. This album is exactly what you would expect from an album released in the mid-90s. Black Orange screams alternative grunge rock with obvious influence from what was popular during that time. It's got a little of everything from some Nirvana to Hootie & the Blowfish.

If you're looking for a little nostalgia without having to hear something you've heard before, this is something you should check out. If you just want good music then this is something you should check out.
